As I talk to people in various stages of life or professional success, I hear stories about what could have been or missed opportunities. You certainly can't do everything, but you can make choices about what you do on a day to day basis, or even moment to moment.
I think this is something that all of us could strive for in our lives. I try to be consistently good and always making progress rather than working to achieve perfection. Having the confidence to make the first step is critical. If the first step doesn't work out, try again and keep experimenting until you find something that works for you.
This intense focus on what you are doing in every moment enables creativity. How? Because you can test ideas and quickly figure out what works and what doesn't. If something doesn't work, then save the idea for another day.
I have found that something interesting can happen when you have enough similar ideas that you've tried that all seem to work and the right people in the vicinity. When you start to spot that pattern of growth you may realize that you are on to something. This is how new companies form.
If you get a critical mass of ideas and the right combination of people helping you, then you will have created the right circumstances for something new to emerge. An astronomer would call this process nuclear fusion, but we're just talking about the creative process and the act of starting up.
Do you have an idea that you want to turn into something? Do you think that you have the right people in the form of partners or mentors ready to help you? Or perhaps you want to go it alone?
If so, then start by asking yourself:
- Where do you want to go?
- What does the current landscape look like?
- What is the impact that you want to make?
I have found that when you can define who you are and what you are doing in one sentence, then you are ready to start building your new business.
And send me a note if this has worked for you.
