The idea ‘how you do one thing is how you do everything’ needs a second look. Do we really act the same at home as we do at work? Can we truly say that our personal and professional lives are exactly the same? This idea seems a bit too basic.
Sometimes, people think that if we’re messy in personal affairs, we will be in professional or group situations too. However, this idea ignores the fact that we might be amazing at some things and not so great at others. The fact that we can handle different parts of our lives with mixed results pretty much rips apart the belief that we’re always the same.
Trying to be perfect in everything we do just isn’t realistic, and it can actually be quite stressful. Understanding that our actions change based on the situation frees us from the pressure of always being uniform.
When we talk about balance, it’s not about making everything we do look the same. Instead, it’s about recognizing and appreciating the variety in our actions and being able to adapt to different situations.
