Are you working to maintain what you have or are you building the future?
There’s a subtle difference between the two perspectives and the reality is that you need to be doing a little bit of both in order to maintain cash flow, but also to uncover and develop new opportunities.
Actively working to protect what you have is a different kind of outlook, though, because it implies that you are sticking with what you know. The danger in this is that you may miss change when it comes, or you may not see that the context that enabled you to succeed in the past has drifted away.
In other words, the world changed outside the barriers that you built and you are no longer connected to what’s around you.
What you do next depends on where you want to go.
